Pardah | परदाह

If they would look at me long enough they could see it too

So many unheard stories, so many untouched wounds, so many buried dreams

I hear some noises, they are laughing i believe

Amused by my misery , it keeps getting louder

Now they are looking, oh no just staring

I hide behind the pardah, saved me then, saves me now

Although the constant glare still remains

Doors aren’t locked anymore, I step outside

I let it all go away with the leaves flying by

Breathe, just breathe

Pardah or purdah (meaning "curtain") is a religious and social practice of female seclusion prevalent among some Muslim and Hindu communities. It takes two forms: physical segregation of the sexes and the requirement that women cover their bodies so as to cover their skin and conceal their form. Some scholars argue that the purdah was initially designed to protect women from being harassed, but later these practices became a way to justify efforts to subjugate women and limit their mobility and freedom. However, others argue that these practices were always in place as local custom, but were later adopted by religious rhetoric to control female behaviour.
